Pat Carr has spent over 35 years at the forefront of aviation, military service, and government operations. As the inventor of aviation artificial turf, he pioneered the first airport-based artificial turf system, including runways and helipads—forever transforming how airfields manage safety, maintenance, and operational efficiency.
The Birth of Innovation
Carr teamed up with experts in the artificial turf industry to design a system that earned seven patents for aviation-grade turf. The product underwent the most rigorous testing in the industry’s history, proving its exceptional durability and effectiveness.
A Lasting Legacy
The first aviation-grade turf installation took place at Midway Airport in Chicago in December 2000. Today, Aviation Turf Inc. continues this legacy, providing emergency surfacing, specialized solutions, and operational support to airports, military bases, and special events worldwide.
Expertise & Leadership
Beyond turf innovation, Pat Carr brings extensive experience in military and civilian aircraft operations, airshow ground management, military flyovers, drone operations, and event management. He has served in numerous military operations globally, including Operation Desert Shield, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Allied Force, Operation Noble Eagle, and Operation Enduring Freedom.
A retired Air Force Major, Carr is also a local government executive specializing in economic development, public safety, and large-scale event planning. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management and a Master’s Degree in Public Safety Administration, and is a FAA Licensed Aircraft Mechanic.
